Co-ed 4s Rules

Responsibilities :
Teams playing at 6pm are responsible to put the nets up and teams
playing at
8pm are responsible to
take them down. (Except
Court A)
-
Balls and nets must be returned to the
shed each night.
-
Only 2 balls per court allowed.
-
When a ball goes out of the court area,
someone must immediately retrieve it before resuming play.
-
Due to liquor laws, no alcohol other
than what is purchased at the bar is allowed on site.
-
Absolutely no glass of
any kind near the beach courts.
-
All players must respect equipment and
facilities
-
Although occasional guest are
permitted, anyone using the courts on a regular basis must
register to be a member ($30)
-
Under no circumstances is any of the
volleyball equipment to leave the Rugby Club premises – Any one
doing so will have their membership taken away.
General :
-
The
Beach League fee is $160.00
per team.
-
Minimum of three players from own team
at game time for game to be valid
-
Max of 2 men on the court at any time
-
1st game forfeited after 10 min and
the match after 20 min
-
No tipping or volleying over the net
-
There is no male-female hitting
sequence, men and ladies hit and block at the net
-
No active Senior
AA or equivalent men players in Tier 2
-
Court size
is 8m x 16m and net height is 2.35 m
League Play :
-
All games are to 21 pts (23 max),
with the 3rd set to 15 pts (17 max).
Matches are always played to 3 games.

Teams are ranked according to:
-
sets
won;
-
if tied
in sets, the team that won the match between the two tied teams;
-
in
the case of a three-way tie in sets, then we rank according to
points scored.
-
It
is the responsibility of each team captain to ensure the point
scores of each game are recorded. Scores must be recorded on
master sheet which will be either by the shed or by the benches.
If scores are not recorded, efforts will be made to find out who
won each game. If actual scores can not be determined, default
scores of 21-10 for the first two sets and 15-5 for the third set
will apply.

Teams that cannot play a league
scheduled game must notify opposing captains by 8pm the evening
before.
Notifications that do not meet this criterion will qualify as a
forfeit.
-
If a team does not have three players
at match time, 1 st game forfeited after 10 min and
the match after 20 min. Three match forfeits will
result in ejection from the league.
-
Officially
rescheduled matches will be moved to Sunday
evenings (6, 7 and
8pm). Only if both Tier 1 and Tier 2 have to be rescheduled for
Sunday, the following times will apply: Tier 2
at 3, 4 and 5 pm; Tier 1 at 6, 7 and
8pm.

All players (including
spares) must be 19 years of age.
-
Only players who are
active registered players on the team roster AND play in regular
league round robin can play in league playoffs. The term active
registered player is defined as a player that has played for half
of the regular season. Any exceptions must be approved by league
officials. Rosters with the team's players must be sent to
amy@co-edfred.com and
changes cannot be made within 2 weeks of the playoffs.

The season schedule will
be played in a "serpentine
system". Playoffs will be hosted for each tier.
The top 8 in each Tier will moved to the associated playoff.

Schedules will be posted on-line by Thursday evening for Tier 1
and by Monday evening for Tier 2.

A team may pick up
spares to complete a four-person team. However, spares are not
permissible if two men or women players are on site to play at
match time. Special allowances may be made to compensate for
injuries etc…
Tournament Play
:
-
The Beach Blast
tournament fee is $120.00 per team.
-
Team captains are responsible to pay
their registration fees before their first match;
-
Draw tickets will be given to each
team captain once the registration fee is paid. Each captain is
responsible to ensure the tickets are filled out and placed in the
ballot box before 12:00 pm. The league assumes no responsibility
for missed draws

Round robin matches are 2 games to 21
(23 max), semi final and final are best of three - 3rd game to 15
(max 17);
-
Teams are allowed 5 minutes to warm-up
before each match;
-
Team captains are responsible to make all
infraction calls for their own team, please be vigilant;
-
A player can only play for one team
during a tournament;
-
The final positions within the round
robin will be determined by the total number of points accumulated
by each team. The top team will be the one with the most points
overall. If two or more teams are
equal in
total points, the next
determining factor will be the total wins and losses between the
tied teams. If still tied, the record from the match of the tied
teams. The next determining factor will be their total points
for/points against. Finally, if none of the above methods are able
to determine the final positions, a coin toss will be used.

Players per Team :
Scoring
:

Round Robin will be 2 games to 21 and 1 game to 15 – win by 2.
Ball Contact
-
A ball may be contacted no more than 3 times per side.
-
A block DOES count as a contact.
-
An open-hand dig is permitted on a hard-driven ball only. Free
balls and roll shots cannot be played with a volley or open-hand
dig. Basically, you can volley a hard hit and when you set your
partner only.
-
Service reception may not be a set or a block.
-
The ball may contact any part of the body.
-
The ball may not be lifted, held or come to rest in a players
hands. This will be called a carried/held ball.
-
Open hand tips are not permitted. An open hand tip is any ball
that is played with the fingertips of one hand.
Service :
-
The ball may be served from anywhere along the endline and between
the outside edges of the sidelines.
-
No service tossing errors are allowed. Let serves are permitted
-
No player is allowed to screen the serve. If an opponent asks you
to move because you are screening the serve, you are obliged to
do so.
Setting
:
-
Players may set the ball over the net provided their shoulders are
"squared up" to the ball's line of flight (front or back sets
apply) or if the ball crosses the net when the ball crosses the
net when the player was intending to set the ball.

You can volley a hard hit or when you are setting your partner but
that is about the only time a volley is acceptable.
The Block :
Player Behaviour :
-
Players must not make derogatory remarks about or to opponents or
spectators.
-
Players must refrain from intentionally trying to distract an
opponent who is playing or about to play the ball (i.e. shouting,
clapping, etc.).
-
Players may not commit any act that delays the game unnecessarily.
-
Players must refrain from intentionally kicking or hitting the
ball out of the area of play.
-
Players may not intentionally or unintentionally screen an
opposing player and must move if asked to do so.
Player Responsibility :
-
Players must be on the court for the scheduled start of the match.
Matches begin at scheduled start time or 5 min. after end of
previous game. Warm up should be done prior to start of match.
-
Players must call their own infractions (i.e. net violations,
carries, etc.).
